Nouvelles Compositions Decoratives 1re Series by Serge Gladky VG ca. 1925 1st Ed
Nouvelles Compositions Decoratives 1re Series by Serge Gladky VG ca. Funky Christmas / Everyday Funky. Come from my father-in-law’s estate. We have an entire weaving and yarn shop inventory to sell that was filled to the brim. This book was found in a locked glass bookcase in my father-in-law’s yarn shop. This book is in VERY GOOD condition. The spine is unbroken. There is no dust jacket. Actual front and back boards have some damage. Minor marks but NO highlighting in text. Pages are mostly crisp, clean and unmarked. This is also an ex-library book from back in the day when people didn’t mess with other people’s things. This book comes with a title page which has a pinhole stamp and a purple ink stamp stating Ann Arbor Public Library Teacher’s Room (so not in general circulation) and initials in pencil at the top center edge. There is a withdrawn stamp on the top of the front right cover as well as one on the back inside cover. There is no evidence of a library card envelope. The title page works like a folder. When you open the folder, there is a small library note in pencil that says 9-01-30, a word we can’t read, and the number 8500 on the inner folded edge. The next page is the introduction by Georges Remon, which is continued on the back of the folder. Every plate has a library stamp on the BACK of the plate. There may be library stamp ink (minor) on some of the plates. We will try to show the worst of it, which is NOT BAD but we’re trying to be as forthcoming as possible. Most of the plates are pristine and those that are not seem to have smudges that can be erased (we tried a few and it came right off). Plate 1 has two drops of what look like watercolor. Plate 9 has tiny dots that might be ink in the bottom right corner. Plate 24 has two drops of gray paint, one at the very bottom of the page and one on the late picture. There may be more. Please assume we missed something. Please see pictures and ask for more!! Please note: The pochoir pages have small ripples in them but there is NO EVIDENCE of water. From the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Nouvelles Compositions Décoratives, 1re Série: 48 Planches par Serge Gladky. Pochoir pattern book with with abstract designs created by Serge Gladky and published in Paris by Editions d’Art Charles Moreau, possibly in the late-1920s or the early 1930s. The book consists of a title page, one unnumbered leaf of introductory text written by Georges Rémon, and 48 pochoir plates numbered 1-48 with a single design each, bound on faded pink and black boards. The designs in the book follow the Art Deco style, which was characterized by its eclecticism, drawing from a variety of sources that sought to combine old European design traditions with the modern style diffused by avant-garde art, while also reflecting the romantic fascination with early Egyptian and Meso-American “exotic” cultures promoted by archaeological discoveries of the times. All the designs are made up of a variety of geometric figures and contain abstract compositions to be applied as decorations in a variety of objects, including textiles and ceramics. Please NOTE: Old books are heavy books. We live in Michigan and it is winter. We have the Lake Effect almost every day – massive cloud cover. We are doing the best we can with interior lighting for the pictures. Almost every book has a smudge somewhere. We mention it if we see it, but please assume we missed something. Our book is pre-ISBN numbers. The Library of Congress number is not in book because it was produced in France. The LOC does not hyphenate when you put the number in to verify. Fake ISBN number is 9781014236289. Correct ISBN number is non-existent. We put in whichever one the system will take. We are running out of estate books. And will be slowly changing over to their other possessions – some serious, some MCM, some just funky, or kitschy. Others are Depression era. Some will be brand new items, still in their packaging, and others will be more mainstream books (from one of the Grandma’s) or some of our personal books or collectables, as we are not leaving this mess to our kids. We hope you will have fun and stay with us. Our packages are ugly, but are very carefully wrapped to arrive safely. Please help us recycle these lovingly cared for curios in an environmentally friendly manner.
