Nouvelles Compositions Decoratives 1re Series by Serge Gladky VG ca. 1925 1st Ed
Nouvelles Compositions Decoratives 1re Series by Serge Gladky VG ca. Funky Christmas / Everyday Funky. Come from my father-in-law’s estate. We have an entire weaving and yarn shop inventory to sell that was filled to the brim. This book was found in a locked glass bookcase in my father-in-law’s yarn shop. This book is in VERY GOOD condition. The spine is unbroken. There is no dust jacket. Actual front and back boards have some damage. Minor marks but NO highlighting in text. Pages are mostly crisp, clean and unmarked. This is also an ex-library book from back in the day when people didn’t mess with other people’s things. This book comes with a title page which has a pinhole stamp and a purple ink stamp stating Ann Arbor Public Library Teacher’s Room (so not in general circulation) and initials in pencil at the top center edge. There is a withdrawn stamp on the top of the front right cover as well as one on the back inside cover. There is no evidence of a library card envelope. The title page works like a folder. When you open the folder, there is a small library note in pencil that says 9-01-30, a word we can’t read, and the number 8500 on the inner folded edge. The next page is the introduction by Georges Remon, which is continued on the back of the folder. Every plate has a library stamp on the BACK of the plate. There may be library stamp ink (minor) on some of the plates. We will try to show the worst of it, which is NOT BAD but we’re trying to be as forthcoming as possible. Most of the plates are pristine and those that are not seem to have smudges that can be erased (we tried a few and it came right off). Plate 1 has two drops of what look like watercolor. Plate 9 has tiny dots that might be ink in the bottom right corner. Plate 24 has two drops of gray paint, one at the very bottom of the page and one on the late picture. There may be more. Please assume we missed something. Please see pictures and ask for more!! Please note: The pochoir pages have small ripples in them but there is NO EVIDENCE of water. From the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Nouvelles Compositions Décoratives, 1re Série: 48 Planches par Serge Gladky. Pochoir pattern book with with abstract designs created by Serge Gladky and published in Paris by Editions d’Art Charles Moreau, possibly in the late-1920s or the early 1930s. The book consists of a title page, one unnumbered leaf of introductory text written by Georges Rémon, and 48 pochoir plates numbered 1-48 with a single design each, bound on faded pink and black boards. The designs in the book follow the Art Deco style, which was characterized by its eclecticism, drawing from a variety of sources that sought to combine old European design traditions with the modern style diffused by avant-garde art, while also reflecting the romantic fascination with early Egyptian and Meso-American “exotic” cultures promoted by archaeological discoveries of the times. All the designs are made up of a variety of geometric figures and contain abstract compositions to be applied as decorations in a variety of objects, including textiles and ceramics. Please NOTE: Old books are heavy books. We live in Michigan and it is winter. We have the Lake Effect almost every day – massive cloud cover. We are doing the best we can with interior lighting for the pictures. Almost every book has a smudge somewhere. We mention it if we see it, but please assume we missed something. Our book is pre-ISBN numbers. The Library of Congress number is not in book because it was produced in France. The LOC does not hyphenate when you put the number in to verify. Fake ISBN number is 9781014236289. Correct ISBN number is non-existent. We put in whichever one the system will take. We are running out of estate books. And will be slowly changing over to their other possessions – some serious, some MCM, some just funky, or kitschy. Others are Depression era. Some will be brand new items, still in their packaging, and others will be more mainstream books (from one of the Grandma’s) or some of our personal books or collectables, as we are not leaving this mess to our kids. We hope you will have fun and stay with us. Our packages are ugly, but are very carefully wrapped to arrive safely. Please help us recycle these lovingly cared for curios in an environmentally friendly manner.

See Below ANDY WARHOL THE IMPOSSIBLE COLLECTION. The 100 quintessential Warhol works, curated by Warhol expert Eric Shiner Introduction by Eric Shiner on how Warhol went from having his 15 minutes of fame to an American icon who epitomizes the Pop Art movement Includes Quotes by Warhol and Captions by Shiner on why each of the featured works made it into the top 100 Don’t think about making art, just get it done. Let everyone else decide if it’s good or bad, whether they love it or hate it. While they are deciding, make even more art. ANDY WARHOL: The American artist, who started his career as a commercial illustrator, explored celebrity culture and advertising as an artistic expression. In this tome, unveiled at Art Basel Miami, 100 of the artist’s thousands of works are curated by former Andy Warhol Museum director, Eric Shiner, and serve to trace his career from the Forties to the Eighties. Andy Warhol’s explosive Pop Art and sharp commentary on advertising and celebrity culture are renowned and deeply relevant even decades after their creation. Casual art lovers know Campbell’s Soup Cans and the Marilyn Diptych, but Andy Warhol: The Impossible Collection goes deeper, revealing and revisiting some less ubiquitous yet equally powerful pieces, spanning paintings, prints, sculpture, films, and photography, from Warhol’s astonishing oeuvre. Though Warhol himself could be a polarizing figure both personally and professionally, there is no doubt that he was a pioneer of the Pop movement, and today, as aresult, his works regularly fetch astronomical prices. In this evocative addition to Assouline’s Ultimate Collection, Warhol expert and former Andy Warhol Museum director Eric Shiner curates the 100 quintessential, unique works that define the evolution of this illustrious artist, tracing Warhol’s dynamic career from the late forties to the end of the eighties and creating a stunning compendium whose pieces, due to their rarity, value, and prestige as part of a museum or other collection, could simply never all be acquired by a single collector. This book is a work of art in its own right; hand-bound using traditional techniques and printed on art-quality paper, each page has the unique imprint of the artisan. No art book collection is complete without Warhol, whose explosive Pop Art and sharp commentary on advertising and celebrity culture are renowned the world over and deeply relevant still today. ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Eric Shiner is the senior vice president of contemporary art at Sotheby’s. Prior to this, he was the director of the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh from 2010 to 2016 and was the museum’s Milton Fine Curator of Art from 2008 to 2010. A leading scholar on Andy Warhol and Asian contemporary art, he lived and worked in Japan for a total of six years and was assistant curator of the inaugural Yokohama Triennale in 2001. Shiner has curated dozens of contemporary art exhibitions in cities around the globe and was the team leader on the Warhol Museum’s major Warhol retrospective. THE IMPOSSIBLE COLLECTION Assouline’s Ultimate Collection is an homage to the art of luxury bookmaking. Hand-bound using traditional techniques, with color plates hand-tipped on art-quality paper, each page of this limited-edition series bears the unique imprint of the artisan. Treating a range of topics from jewelry and fashion, fine art The Impossible Collections curate culture from around the world and across the ages like no other book in existence. Signaling a new level of sophistication for true connoisseurs, these unique books are works of art in their own right. Nestled in linen clamshell presentation cases, these books attract collectors, lovers of the printed page, and those who devour the culture of our time. Assouline’s Ultimate Collection is an homage to the art of luxury bookmaking. In Savannah’s Bonaventure Cemetery (where Leigh is interred). That graces the cover of John Berendt’s Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. But Leigh, a native of Savannah, was at that time already known as an accomplished portrait and documentary photographer. He wrote and published five books on photography and his photo gallery was a popular tourist attraction in Savannah’s historic district. In addition to Oystering, offered for sale, he is also known for Nets & Doors: Shrimping in Southern Waters (1989) and Seaport: A waterfront at Work (1996). The best description of Oystering (Carolina Art Association, 1983) is found in the book notes: The photographs in this book are the result of a talented photographer’s love and respect for a vanishing way of life. Jack Leigh has lived near the oystermen of coastal South Carolina for many years and has spent countless hours with them, from from the cold light of early morning in the salt marsh to the flickering flambeaux of midnight on the river. His camera has recorded the lonely and secret pursuit of the individual oystermen, the camaraderie and round-the-clock travail of the oyster barge teams, the clutter of the shucking house, and the acrid steam of the cannery. Oystering: A Way of Life is an achievement in the finest tradition of photo documentary journalism and his also a sensitive work of art. Author James Dickey’s poetic foreword provides an evocative counterpoint to the photographs and also stands apart as a distinguished work of the literary art. For all who love the Southeast and who mourn the passing of one of our nation’s unique traditions, Oystering: A Way of Life captures the enduring world of the Carolina Oysterman. Hardcover with dust jacket, 1st, 110 pp. 9.5″x12″; b/w ills. Don’t be shy; give it a try.
