She was born in 1980. She moved to the UK in 2000 after dropping out of the Department of Photography at Tokyo Polytechnic University, and graduated from Chelsea College of Art and Design, University of the Arts London in 2004. She won the 33rd Kimura Ihei Photography Award for her two photo books, “CANARY” and “Lilly,” published in 2007. She has since received the ICP Infinity Award Newcomer Award in 2009 and the 28th Higashikawa Award New Writer Award in 2012. She has participated in exhibitions both domestically and internationally, and in the spring of 2019 she held the “Human Spring” exhibition at the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography, where she presented her new works.
